Lt. Cdr. Aoife O'Rielly | INT BOT 16-Aug-25 10:08 PM
Aoife was the first to push into the new node, after finishing the climb she began to secure the immediate area rifle raised with it's flashlight on.

Soon enough, Tavek was in the power distribution node. Even after that firefight, you could still catch a glimpse of curiosity in him, taking in all the engineering of the place- as well as possible places an ambush could come from, of course. His rifle was raised, and his eyes and ears were peeled for anything amiss.

Once Vara'l headed up the ladder, he entered the room and joined the others who'd started to sweep it. "Can someone begin scanning for life signs." He requested as he joined Aoife in her efforts to ensure the immediate area was secured, Phaser rifle flash light on as he moved.

Lt. Cdr. T'She | MED BOT 16-Aug-25 10:14 PM
T'She climbed the ladder rather quickly, sticking in the middle of the pack, The moment they were up there, however, they pulled out their tricorder to scan for life signs. "Understood." They gave the affirmative, telling Vara'l that they had heard the order.

Like a good little support character, Eicran remained crouched next to the ladder to help give people a hand up. He was more interested in ensuring people made it successfully anyway. Borg technology was interesting, but it wasn't as if he could make heads or tails of it. A power distribution node didn't mean much to him, unfortunately.

He hummed low, observing the node with a tilt to his head. Definitely not listening to his surroundings, no no.

PO. Karavix K'mporr | ENG BOT 16-Aug-25 10:20 PM
Karavix had definitely been helping the whole time, and was immediately looking around under the guise of scanning. Even with their friends being attacked, she was still endlessly curious about everything. How could she not be?

The next room was fairly simple, all things considered, and while it had multiple exits, it didn't really lend itself to ambushes, lacking the height to have people coming in from above, and with the exits leading straight into hallways, it was a fairly normal room. What did become immediately apparent though, especially to people like Tavek and Karavix who spent all day every day looking at power distribution systems, was that this was one. Notably, it seemed to be quite a hotspot for the current sector, with cabling running all over and several consoles littered about specifically designed to access the larger cables, to manually control where the power went and diagnose issues.

"Like I thought an age ago... All the power, concentrated toward the heart." Only metaphorically the heart. As Ato had said earlier, a vinculum in medical terms was a connective band of tissue.

“Power distribution node.. this is definitely the hotspot for this sector of the cube. If we can get in those consoles, I bet we can cause some problems.” He said, looking around at all the huge cables headed towards the Vinculum.

PO. Karavix K'mporr | ENG BOT 16-Aug-25 10:28 PM
Hmm.. "Could we disconnect the power to the heart from here..?" Karavix wondered out loud, studying the node with Incredible interest.

Lt. Serin-De-Sieth | ENG BOT 16-Aug-25 10:30 PM
"That would require the severing of many veins. In organic life, usually just severing one is enough to do the job, but this cube is quite different." Though, past a point, you couldn't help but feel machines with pulses and thrumming hearts of energy were a little bit biological. (edited)

"Any lifesigns detected?" Vara'l asked then as he looked around the room, noted what was seen and then asked. "Engineering officers, can you take a look, see what's doable from here?" As he a mauled mind considered the situation and decided it was worth a check. "Even if we can't take down the heart from here, if we can do something like take shields or internal sensors out of the equation, either would be immensely useful."

No life signs currently.

Lt. Cdr. Aoife O'Rielly | INT BOT 16-Aug-25 10:32 PM
"Commander tr'Hara is right. If we can take the shields down or disable whatevers blocking communications it would make a big difference to our odds." Aoife said as she took up a sentry position on one of the doors.

PO. Karavix K'mporr | ENG BOT 16-Aug-25 10:33 PM
"Aye, sir." Karavix began fiddling with the consoles, trying to see if she could get in to shields or anything of the like.

“It’s definitely worth a shot. I’ll see if I can’t turn these consoles on.” He said, walking over to one of the consoles servicing one of the large cables, looking over it to see if he could get in, and if he could get in, if he could even understand it enough to get into the shields- after all, he wasn’t Borg.

"Teamwork makes the dream work." He leaned over someone else's console like an annoying parent surveying their child's online activity.

"If you need a xB's eyes on a console, tell me and I'll come look stuff over." The CTO then offered as a after thought as he continued through thought after thought, analyse and analysed. Shielded himself in his work. Not yet his mind demanded of emotions roil as he positioned himself to help keep watch for drones.

Vesta had arrived to the power distribution node, she still rubbed her neck occasionally. Still feeling the phantom blade. It was scary, but if that was the worst thing to happen to her then she should consider herself lucky. In fact, she felt like maybe she deserved worse.

Both consoles were fairly easy to get into, much like the other consoles encountered before. They showed quite a lot of information, and for a split second, there was even an interface of sorts, before this was deleted from the screen and made inaccessible. But from what was visible, the stream of power could be followed quite handily. There was a lot of it going towards the area they had to go next, and quite a lot of it going to the assimilation chambers they had come from, though that looked to be powering down slowly.

Lt. JG. Tavek tr’Lliehn | ENG BOT 16-Aug-25 10:56 PM
“Damn it- no interface, but at least we’ve got info.” He said, his eyes flicking across the screen as he read. “Lot of power going up ahead, and a lot going to the assimilation chambers- that’s powering down though.”

Lt. Cdr. Aoife O'Rielly | INT BOT 16-Aug-25 11:00 PM
"Can you figure out what's in the next area that's drawing so much power?" Aoife asked as she remained on sentry duty.

PO. Karavix K'mporr | ENG BOT 16-Aug-25 11:01 PM
"Well, without a proper interface, we cannot access much of anything at all..." Karavix shook her head. "The only way to find out is to keep going."
Avatar
Lt. JG. Tavek tr’Lliehn | ENG BOT 16-Aug-25 11:04 PM
“Yeah.. only way to know is to see it for ourselves. We should prepare for.. there’s got to be something big up ahead.” He added, looking up from the console. He was trying to commit all the data about the cube and its systems to memory- such things might be useful to someone later on, and by god did Tavek thrive on being useful.

"Onwards we go then." Aoife said disappointed they couldn't disable the shields from here. She stood as she began moving forward. (edited)

Tavek stepped back, hefting his rifle once again. He started to walk over to the entrance to the next room- not to be the first one in, but he still wanted to be at the front to cover everyone else’s entrances in.

"Very well," Karavix said, stepping forward with phaser at the ready, going to follow the group. This probably wasn't anything good...

Lt. Cdr. Vara'l tr'Hara | TAC BOT 16-Aug-25 11:07 PM
"Understood." The Romulan responded simply then before he stated. "It was worth the attempt, I concur with you both." He nodded then at Senang's statement. "Aye, weapons at the ready, rifles to the front, prepare for contact." The CTO agreed as he moved to support Senang and Aoife as he to started to move forwards.

Rifle once again at the ready, he joined the group to venture into the next room - whatever was drawing all of the power. He tried to think of if he had seen similar before... And very much hoped that they weren't walking into the area where newly-assimilated drones were operated on to replace limbs with cybernetic parts, because of course that was the thing that came to the forefront of his mind.
